Studio Tetrarch, “Frine” for Artemide

The Frine table lamp is a rare and iconic design piece from the late 1960s, created by Studio Tetrarch for the renowned Italian lighting manufacturer Artemide. See also: Book “Light” (Lamps 1968-1973: new Italian design) by Fulvio & Napoleone Ferrari. Phryne (Frine) was the Greek courtesan who was accused of impiety and stripped by the defender before the judges to obtain clemency. As the lamps magically opens, it recreates the atmosphere of that episode (E. De Munari). Closed Diameter: 30 cm (12 inches) Open Diameter: Approximately 50 cm (20 inches)
